Infusionsoft’s CEO and Co-Founder, Clate Mask: Part 1

Infusionsoft’s CEO and Co-Founder, Clate Mask: Part 1

BlazinAZtv.com Interviews: Clate Mask, Entrepreneur, CEO and Co-Founder of Infusionsoft / @Infusionsoft / @ClateMask

In this episode, Clate talks about:

  • Starting out
  • “Trading hours for dollars”
  • The first three years being “brutal” but “worth it”
  • “B.H.A.G.  – big harry audacious goals”: success in planning and revisiting your goals
  • The importance of measurement
  • Recent company growth and the shift that causes it: alignment, product refinement, measurement and visibility
  • Helping customers grow their businesses

“An entrepreneur since childhood as a young boy with a thriving paper route and big ambitions, Clate Mask thrives on turning small businesses into big businesses. From the beginning, it was clear that Clate’s goals were unique. While his grad school friends pursued traditional jobs in Corporate America, Clate wanted to build small businesses. Clate joined Infusionsoft in 2002, when it was a small, bootstrapped company that developed custom software out of a strip mall in Mesa for small businesses. The company has certainly evolved since then with Clate’s leadership at the helm of this fast-moving company. In the last three and a half years alone big progress has been made: Clate has helped the business raise two rounds of venture funding totaling $17 million, company grew to more than 130 employees and Infusionsoft grew its customer base by 800%.

Clate’s personal experience with entrepreneurship allows him to relate personally to each customer. His role as CEO of Infusionsoft has allowed him to pursue his lifelong goal of helping small companies reach their growth potential while allowing the staff to enjoy doing business, wow their customers and better serve their families and communities. Clate has also established his company’s core values in reflection of his own: Entrepreneurship, Authenticity, Integrity, Passion and Compassion.

Clate demonstrates perseverance in the face of adversity and has overcome obstacles in a variety of ways, most notably as an entrepreneurial risk taker. In the early days of Infusionsoft, Clate with his big family (comprised of a patient and loving wife and 5 kids) had  mountains of student loans (which he had to put into forbearance to get the business off the ground), mortgaged his house, personally guaranteed office space, credit lines and equipment loans up to his eyeballs, went months at a time without taking home a penny, maxed out as many credit cards as possible, killed his personal credit and wore his wife Charisse to a frazzle… All while knowing he could put his law degree and MBA to use to land a comfy 6-figure job.

Today that perseverance has paid off. Infusionsoft has evolved into the leader in Email Marketing 2.0, empowering thousands of small businesses to grow smarter and faster through targeted marketing that automatically adapts to prospect and customer behavior. Infusionsoft is the first to marry email marketing and CRM in one app that’s driven by a powerful automation engine that allows entrepreneurs to market more effectively so they can grow their small businesses. Under his leadership, he privately held company has been named to the Inc. 500 list three years in a row and secured VC funding from Mohr Davidow Ventures and vSpring Capital.”
